Who's Next in Line?

It would be quiet easy if choosing the presidency in the country is done with a dice game. However, running a country is not any better done through gambling. The country is wincing from all the misfortunes and mishaps that it has experienced for generations. Who among us now would not want the most efficient and the most eligible leader to head us in soaring high and flipping the chances of our country? The power to vote is in the hands of the Filipino people and each one is given this task to make use of this power with rationality.

I am not fond of watching television. You'd probably see me more time sleeping than sitting lazily in front of the TV. However, as I was taking some free time watching, I caught myself being fascinated with an advertisement regarding a political forum to be aired coming that Sunday night in ABS-CBN. Both the patriot and the philosopher in me was aroused and built the urge for me to wait late for that program. I would commend the institutions that made this forum to happen, the politicians who were brave enough to face the scrutiny of the people and my regrets to those politicians who were not able to join the said forum - I would do hope that they dismissed the request not because they are too scared of letting people see the deeper, and probably dirtier, side of their personality.

Very few a times would a person not brag about the things they have done. In the ring of politics, a usual tactic that any of its players would probably do is laying everything they have done. This is the reason why I would probably side and suggest that Sen. Escudero won it. He won not because he was the best in showcasing every acts he has done for the country. He won not because he showcased the best acts he has done for the country. I see him as a winner, for the said forum, because he was able to portray his magnanimity, eloquence and intelligence without bragging anything. However, Do not not take this as if I take judgment only on that issue. If we are to weigh the answers, no doubt can we suggest  that he is one of the politicians that gave the good  answers. Probably, what gives him a run for his money is the fact that his answers are not meant to please but rather to inform. I,however, am saddened that it appears he has no real plan of running for office - as what he has always been telling everyone, his age would hinder him even if he really wants to run for that office.

Though my spotlight is on Escudero, I would not think less of those others that gave time to join. As I have said earlier, the mere fact that they have faced the people vulnerably gives them the warrant of being applauded. Gordon's talk on human dignity and pro-activity proves to be a good view of the country. My problem, however, is his rejection of accepting that the Filipino people and its country already made their own identity. He shouts for identity, but it would appear that the identity he wants to put up is not what the Filipino people is. He shouts for a perfect identity, an identity that is only ideal and does not represent the Filipino populace; an identity which he wishes to make out for the people but not by the people. Panlilio's stint is about self sacrifice. He highlights his choice of leaving the church for the people. However, I would think that this is nothing more than a "gimik". By giving such stories, he would probably be able to cater both the catholics and the non-catholics. Moreover, his total failure cooked when he answered the question whether he would side to the church for some local issues. He escapes the question and leaves no position regarding the matter. A person without his own stand and is better off fleeing to please both side of the party is nothing more than a typical politician. Mar Roxas is actually inflicted not with bad answers but with bad questions. I would have to say that the worst questions were given to him. A such, he was not able to maximize this questions to put him up. Though Mar's lack of eloquence, another blame would be for the host for choosing questions that only attacked him based on issues which were already being answered outside the forum. Last but not the least, They have also called upon Teodoro. I will be honest, I did no listen to him. The moment he uttered his first words which suggested that he was running actually gave him minus points for me. If you would be well-informed regarding news, you'd not miss the questions raised regarding the public/political ads that were released during Pac-man's bout. One of those that appeared was Teodoro's government-funded advertisement. He was asked regarding it and he strongly answered that such ads is nothing political because he does not even have plans of running. Let alone lying is nothing laughable, what makes more of the fact that the ad was sponsored by the department he is in? Is this not corruption? Sue me, but I would not want to think that this is alike the "I'm sorry" issue that was done by the person he supports - the current president.

Many political propaganda have been circling around us. I've received comics of the life story of Binay. I've read through Bayani Fernando's self made tabloid. I've also watched Villar's advertisements. Everyday has been a time to be exposed to all this petty stunts. The least should we know that this are hand-picked information regarding our politicians. They've been using this to manipulate our mind in thinking that they are the superman in flesh. I pity anyone that votes based on this ill-made propaganda. The good way of unmasking this politicians and seeing the truth about them is by placing them seated in front of the people who they want to serve. They owe everything to the people, so why not let the people judge them as they are. We should be mindful enough to think that rather than letting them choose what they want us to see, we should be the one to assert and ask what we need to see.

The government is not made by the man that sits on the position. It is not even the government for that one man. The government is a creation of the people, by the people and for the people. We are responsible to whatever may come to the country in the future. Let us all be empowered. More than just voting, each individual should think and rationalize which name is competent enough to be put on their ballots. Know your politicians and, probably, know your next president.
